Outside The Jewellery Box

Think you know jewellery? Think again.

Jewellery is undergoing a bit of a revolution. Rebelling against the traditional ring, necklace and bracelet, it’s time to think outside the (jewellery) box with your accessories. Dainty or bold (but always statement making), meet the latest it-jewels you need to familiarise yourself with: the ear cuff, the body harness and the midi ring.

If you’re feeling shy about the whole thing, a good place to start is with the midi or fingertip ring. Smaller in size, these pretty accessories sit on the upper part or tip of your finger for an eclectic or elegant look. Choose thin plain rings in silver or gold and wear with your favourite cocktail ring, or opt for a combination of simple and ornate with a symbol or slogan. One thing to remember – the more the merrier!

Celebs have been rocking it on the red carpet, but the ear cuff is a piece that looks just as good dressing up a casual outfit as it does with a cocktail dress. Grunge up your look with a bold and bright cuff for day, then swap it for elegant jewels at night. Wear alone, or even pair with a matching earring. Side swept hair is the perfect way to show it off too.

When you’re feeling bolder, why not try the body or hand harness? The hand harness combines a bracelet and a ring, linking them with a delicate chain that lies across your hand. The body harness is how it sounds – a chain that crosses the front and back of your body. It’s a great way to accessorise a plain dress, update a favourite outfit or even wear over your bikini in the summertime for a glamorous poolside look.
