Heavy Materials and Fringing S/S 2015‏ Trend

Don’t be too hasty in putting away your leather and suede just because the weather is warmer and Spring has arrived. Proving they’re more versatile than you probably thought, designers have continued the unseasonably dark palettes of their collections with the use of these traditionally heavy weight fabrics. While it’s true they probably won’t make the ideal outfit for a day at the beach, leather and suede do make for luxe and ladylike daywear. They’re also perfect if you’re jetsetting between climates, or live in a city where the weather can change hourly (Melbourne, we’re looking at you!).

So how to wear these heavy-duty fabrics in a light and easy way? If suede is your style, try the throw on but utterly sexy tunic dresses neatly belted at Altuzarra, pants at Loewe or the pastel coloured fringe covered dresses at Alberta Ferretti. Street style stars are also loving the Pocahontas vibe, sporting fringing on their bags, and our favourite, a fun fringed midi skirt. Forget double denim too, a suede shirt paired with a suede skirt is doubly delicious.

Got a liking for leather? Given a ladylike makeover this season, leather was perfectly adapted for spring with sleek and chic lines in gorgeous tan shades, like the dresses at Guy Laroche and the sleeveless long coats of Lucas Nascimento. Midi skirts and pencil skirts, trench coats and bomber jacket, crop tops and dungarees – no piece is excluded from the luxe leather treatment. For added sassy chic, consider going for reptile print in deep red, rich brown or expensive mahogany.

Perhaps the greatest thing about these two textures is how good they look separately and how great they work together. So slip into your suede look and flick your fringing – Spring fashion just entered the heavyweight stakes.
